Community Engagement at Thornham St James

At Thornham St James, Journeying Together, We Shine is not just our vision statement — it guides how we live as a school family. Community engagement is at the heart of this, with parents, carers, church, and the wider community all playing a vital role in school life.

Working Together

Parents and carers are our children’s first educators, and we value the many ways you contribute to school life. Families are invited to take an active role through:

  • Parent Support Group (PSG): Fundraising, organising events, and strengthening links between home and school.

  • Celebration & Worship: Class celebration assemblies, worship events in school, and half-termly services in church. Father Paul leads both whole-school worship and Diddly Disciples with our Reception class, and the church community welcomes us to join Sunday worship throughout the year.

  • Special Events: Come Dine With Me lunches, reading cafés and Values Days are soem of the vents which bring families and children together in fun and meaningful ways.

  • Supportive Spaces: SEND coffee mornings, parent curriculum workshops and our ongoing commitment to signposting and supporting families whenever needed.

  • Listening to Families: Alongside our annual parent survey, we host six Parent Forum meetings each year, giving families a real voice in celebrating what works well and helping us think about how we can be even better.

  • Early Years Community Links: Our monthly Stay & Play sessions invite pre-school children and their families to join us, building community connections from the earliest years.

Why It Matters

Through all these opportunities, families don’t just visit school — they are part of shaping it. Together, we create a school where children flourish academically, socially, and spiritually, living out our values of community, service, wisdom, compassion, thankfulness and creativity.
