School Uniform

Our school uniform plays an important role in creating a calm, purposeful and inclusive learning environment. Wearing uniform helps children feel part of a shared community, promotes equality and supports high standards of behaviour and learning. We expect all pupils to wear the correct school clothing each day and to take pride in their appearance, as this reflects their attitude, respect for others and readiness to learn. At Thornham St James, we recognise that the cost of living places real pressure on families. For this reason, school clothing items with the school logo is not compulsory. All required items can be purchased from local supermarkets, ensuring uniform remains affordable and accessible for all.

The only items that must be purchased directly through school or Debonair are:

  • School tie – £4.99

  • School water bottle – £1.50

These items help ensure consistency across the school day and support our expectations around smart presentation and healthy hydration.

Families who wish to purchase branded items may do so from:

  • Branded jumpers and cardigans are available from Debonair, Tommyfield Market Hall, Oldham (online or in store).

We are an inclusive school and do not specify uniform by gender, in line with human rights legislation and the nine protected characteristics. We are currently working with our uniform supplier to remove gendered labelling from items.

Pre-Loved Uniform

We warmly welcome donations of pre-loved uniform that children have grown out of. These items are passed on to other families free of charge.
This supports our community and is an eco-friendly way to reuse good-quality clothing.

Please only donate items that are clean and in good condition.
