Our School Ethos: Who are we?
As a parent, pupil, visitor or member of staff you will find that Thornham St James aims to offer the best education, as other schools would, but the way in which the school works is different and distinctive. This distinctive difference is rooted in our Christian Vision and Values that affect the way in which everyone behaves and the way in which everyone is respected. We are here to ensure all children let their light shine during their journey, at Thornham ST James and beyond.
In order to nurture children’s spirituality, our Governing Body ensures Thornham St James’:
Is led by a Headteacher who is committed, with the help of staff, to maintain the Christian character of the school.
Enables children to engage meaningfully in a daily act of Christian worship.
Offers school life that incorporates the values of the Christian faith.
Ensures that 5% of curriculum time is devoted to Religious Education.
Observes the major Christian festivals.
Ensure those children of other faiths are able to and encouraged to mark their major festivals with integrity.
Maintains and develops an active and affirming relationship with Thornham St James Church and Manchester Dioceses.
Proclaims that our school is a Church of England school and makes appropriate use of Christian symbols around the school.
Ours School Vision: Why are we here?
“You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works.” Matthew 5: 14-16
Identified by all stakeholders as being truly representative of our school and who we are, this verse represents the values we have as a school that ensures every member of our school community will flourish and succeed and their journey with us and beyound. Through sharing the life-giving message of Jesus Christ, and acknowledging our patron St James, we are committed to ensuring pathways at Thornham St James are filled with a love of learning, in place where all are valued, where we all live together as a Christian family. We help all recognise, develop and appreciate children’s gifts so that they may let their light shine! Our staff and children are focused on being the best that they can be socially, emotionally, academically and spiritually in order to be beacons of light in the world, ready to make a positive impact.
Our school motto encapsulates our vision: ‘Journeying Together, We Shine’
