Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
At Thornham St James Church of England Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils, regardless of their individual needs, are supported to make strong progress and flourish academically, socially and emotionally.
We aim to be inclusive, aming adjustments that are reasonable and appropriate, recognising that every child is unique and that provision should be responsive, proportionate and rooted in high-quality teaching. Our approach reflects our Christian vision of Journeying Together, We Shine, valuing the dignity and potential of every child.
In line with the SEND Code of Practice (2015), pupils’ needs are identified and supported within one or more of the following four broad areas:
-
Communication and Interaction
-
Cognition and Learning
-
Social, Emotional and Mental Health
-
Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Support is planned using a graduated response, beginning with strong universal provision and moving to targeted or specialist support where required.
What is the Local Offer?
The Children and Families Act 2014 requires local authorities and schools to publish information about the services available to children and young people with SEND. This is known as the Local Offer.
The Local Offer is designed to:
-
Improve transparency
-
Support informed choice
-
Help families understand what support is available locally and in school
