Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium Allocation

The Pupil Premium Grant is allocated for the educational benefit of children at the school. It is additional to main school funding and is based on pupil eligibility for free school meals (FSM) and children who have been ‘looked after’ for more than six months.

At Thornham St.James’ the Pupil Premium Grant has been used in a variety of ways to provide support for our pupils. In 2015-16, the funding enabled us to maintain both the increased number of Support Staff and the hours put in place for intervention and support. The homework club continued, as did the provision of a lunchtime chess club, thus enabling the funding to benefit a greater number of pupils. Additional phonics, literacy and maths resources were purchased to support our pupils, alongside some emotional literacy and PSHE resources and games. Specific training for teachers and support staff was also undertaken to meet individual/group pupil needs.

We believe that the school benefits considerably from the Pupil Premium Grant and all children continued to make very good progress in many ways as the results below show. There are too few pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium in Year 2 and Year 6 for it to be compared and the gap difference to be displayed. However, the results below show that all children make good progress and achieve highly. The Pupil Premium Grant helps in some way for the school to continue to provide some of the support needed.

In 2016-17, the funding will enable us to maintain the number of Support Staff and the hours put in place for intervention and support in 2015-2016. The homework club and lunchtime chess club will also continue. Additional resources will be purchased to support our pupils as required alongside specific training for teachers and support staff to meet individual/group pupil needs.
